Facilities
The University maintains two facilities in the north end of downtown San Jose, steps away from St. James Park, for its primary operations. The University selected downtown San Jose to establish the campus because the location is close to many major technology companies, has easy access to the San Jose International Airport as well as to freeways 87 and 101, and provides many public transportation options including the Santa Clara County Lightrail system. Within a short walking distance, CALMAT students, faculty and staff may enjoy many public resources such as the Martin Luther King/San Jose City Library, the Tech Museum of Innovation, the San Jose Convention Center, the San Jose Center for Performing Arts, the San Jose Athletic Club, the Museum of Modern Art. There are also numerous restaurants and shops within walking distance of CALMAT.
The primary teaching and learning facility, shared by all programs, is at 65 North Second Street. This building has approximately 8,500 square feet of space and includes three classrooms that can accommodate 15, 35 and 50 persons respectively. Each classroom includes large movable tables that can be reconfigured to meet various pedagogical needs. All classrooms are equipped with a networked computer, projector and white boards, as well as WiFi access. The 50-seat classroom is co-located with the CALMAT library and serves as a venue for our distinguished speaker series and other public events. Our three technology laboratories are designed to support student internships and externally supported projects.Three additional office spaces function as a conference room, a faculty office and an administrative office. The building includes a lounge with a refrigerator, microwave oven and dining tables. Free parking is available to students and faculty during class time in forty parking spaces adjacent to the building. Additional parking is available within 500 yards of the building in a large public parking structure between Second and Third Street.
The University also maintains a shared facility at 111 North Market Street, Suite 300, about four hundred yards from the Second Street building. The Market Street facility, used primary for administrative meetings and student consultation, has a 15-seat conference room, a 12-seat conference room and an office. The Market Street facility is also the mailing address for the University.
CALMAT does not have dormitory facilities. However, a wide range of housing options are available in the San Jose area.
Library and Learning Resources
CALMAT Library's collection includes over one thousand titles of books that are directly related to the primary subjects of CALMAT's classes: technology and management. Multiple copies of textbooks are also included in the collection. CALMAT library is open every day when there are classes held, typically on Fridays and Saturdays. During student orientation, students' driver's license or photo ID will be recorded and later used as CALMAT library access card. During the orientation, students will also be guided to Martin Luther Kings Library for their library card (see description below).
One of the primary reasons CALMAT chose the downtown San Jose location is the rich learning resources provided by Martin Luther King Library. A short stroll from CALMAT campus, the library is open to all CALMAT students (see Eligibility for Use of Martin Luther King Library).
Martin Luther King Library is one of the largest librariesin the region. The King Library boasts a collection of roughly 1.9 million items as well as delightful public art installations awaiting your discovery on every floor.
