MMIS Curriculum II 510: Intro to Computer Architecture Description: This course introduces computer architectures and computer systems management. Includes data representation, memory, registers, and internals of common computers and system interfaces. Knowledge of C/C++ programming helpful but not mandatory. 3 Units II 511: Introduction to Database Systems Description: This course is an introduction to Relational Database Management Systems. Topics covered will include relational database theory and the logical and physical design, implementation, and management of databases. Additional topics will include Entity-Relationship Diagrams, Normalization and an introduction to SQL (Structured Query Language). 3 Units II 512: Healthcare System in the US Description: Understanding the healthcare systems including strategies regarding HIPPA requirements. Accounting of disclosures: ensuring that you have the proper processes in place to address the accounting of disclosures challenges. 2 Units II 513: Principles of Accounting Description: Fundamental principles of double-entry accounting, with emphasis on journalizing, posting, and the preparation of financial statements; also accounting for cash and work at close of the fiscal period using the cash and accrual basis for a service enterprise. 3 Units II 514: Medical Terminology Description: Identification of the organs and basic functions of the human body and disorders as it relates to each system with medical terminology integrated with each. Additionally, the course introduces the basics of medical terms by use of prefixes, suffixes, and anatomical roots. 3 Units II 515: Medical Transcription Description: Principles of medical transcription along with practical application and usage of medical forms, reports and case studies with integrated medical terminology and medical keyboarding. 3 Units II 516: Insurance and Medical Coding Description: Discussion of the types of health insurance, insurance claims procedures and instruction in the application of the current version of the International Classification of Diseases, 2001, Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) Classification System and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT). 3 Units II 517: Medical Administrative Procedures Description: Discussion of the components of effective client/staff communication, both verbal and nonverbal. Beginning front office activities such as scheduling, insurance, billing and patient/client education methods are covered. Practical application activities are integrated throughout this course. 3 Untis II 518: Healthcare Delivery Systems Description: Introduction to organization, financing, and delivery of health care services, accreditation, licensure, and regulatory agencies. 3 Units II 519: Computer Security Description: TBA 3 Units II 520: Data Retrieval & Storage Description: Learn fundamentals of information storage and retrieval (ISR) systems in concept, method, and principle will be covered in the phases of information representation, information organization, and information retrieval. 3 Units |
